When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the
light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will
have the light of life.” – John 8:12 NIV
Jesus Christ is emphasizing that He is the light of the
world, because He is the way and the truth of life (John
14:6). However, to be a TRUE follower/disciple of Jesus is quite hard. This
is because we OUGHT to enter through the narrow gate rather than the wide one,
which means we HAVE to sacrifice everything for God, for Jesus says, “Whoever
wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow
me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever
loses their life for me will find it.” (Matthew
16:24-25) But on the contrary, we will have the light of life, just like John
8:12 states – “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and
broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But
small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find
it. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction;
whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” (Matthew
7:13-14, Galatians 6:8)
The Holy Spirit was poured into us from God, our heavenly
Father to advocate us in the walk with Him – “If you love me, keep my commands.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you
and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him,
because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with
you and will be in you. For the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will
send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I
have said to you.” (John
14:15-17, 26) This means that we are NEVER alone in spiritual sense, so we
DON’T have to be afraid of the world, for the word of God says, “The Lord
himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor
forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy
31:8) – “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you,
persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice
and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven….. (Matthew
5:10-12) For our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior
from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring
everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will
be like his glorious body. For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is
destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built
by human hands.” (Philippians
3:20-21, 2 Corinthians 5:1)
