“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to
you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have
fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do NOT live by the
truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship
with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1
John 1:5-7 NIV) - “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will NEVER
walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12 NIV)
This verse of 1
John 5:6 – “If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the
darkness, we lie and do NOT live out the truth” is ABSOLUTELY true, for verse
before that states, “God is light; in him there is NO darkness at all.” (1
John 1:5) ‘But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from
all sin” – (1
John 1:7) and Jesus says in John
8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will NEVER walk
in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
But how do we know the blood of Jesus will purify us from
all sin? Secondly, how do we know that we will never walk in darkness, but will
have light of life?
The answer for the first question is that we know the blood
of Jesus will purify us from all sin; by His crucifixion (see
Colossians 2:13-15) and by this verse of 1
John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
The answers for the second question are: we can know that we
will NEVER walk in darkness by the peace of God that He left for us – “Peace I
leave with you; my peace I give you. I do NOT give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John
14:27) – “The peace of God, which TRANSCENDS ALL understanding, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians
4:7)
God promises us that we will have light of life. We can see
this in Matthew
16:24-25, even though we OUGHT to deny ourselves, while we are on the earth
- “Whoever wants to be my disciple MUST deny themselves and take up their cross
and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it,
but whoever loses their life for me will FIND it.”
Therefore, let’s REALLY walk with God in the light and the
truth with FULL-DEVOTION by obeying the Holy Spirit whom He poured His Spirit into
us due to His steadfast love (Romans
5:5), as our guidance/advocate/friend (see
John 14:15-17,26); in order to make us holy, as He is holy (see
1 Peter 1:13-16). The reason for this is to enter the kingdom of God, which
set for us as our ETERNAL HOME (see
Philippians 3:20-21, 2 Corinthians 5:1) – “Not everyone who says to me,
‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who DOES
the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew
7:21)
