“He [Jesus Christ] was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on
him, and by his wounds we are healed.” – Isaiah 53:5 NIV
Because of this world, we have been sinners
from the beginning, “for all have sinned
and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
Therefore, just as
sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way
death came to all people, because all sinned. (Romans 5:12)
Therefore, God, our heavenly Father had
saved us, due to His steadfast love. The way that He had done this was by
coming down from the kingdom of heaven as Jesus Christ (John 1:4) to crucify
Himself on the cross. (1 John 4:9-10) This is because He had
wanted to destroy the evil rulers and authorities, who has been inside of us (Colossians 2:13-15; Hebrews 2:14-15), since He has been the way
of the truth and the life. (John 14:6) Thus, the word of God proclaims:
“salvation
is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to
mankind by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)
For God made
Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be
made right with God through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
For this reason, we have to be the
righteousness of God from inside and out if we want to be the follower of Jesus
Christ and to enter the kingdom of heaven—since the word of God declares: ‘Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth
and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”’ (John 14:6)
“He himself bore
our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and
live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” For “you were
like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and
Overseer of your souls. (1 Peter 2:24-25)
… “If any of you
wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your
cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But
if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit
if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than
your soul? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his
Father and will judge all people according to their deeds.” (Matthew 16:24-27)
For, as I have
often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as
enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is
their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly
things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there,
the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything
under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like
his glorious body. For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is
destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built
by human hands. So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for
the glory of God. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and
drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Philippians 3:18-21, 2 Corinthians 5:1, 1 Corinthians
10:31, Romans 14:17)
