“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no
other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. And everyone
who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” – Acts 4:12, 2:21 NIV
Even though I was physically saved by God
and joined the church called “LifeChangers,” I was not firm believer in the
name of the Lord. On the other hand, my family thought that I was Christian at
that time, since I had spent hours of praying. Therefore, one of my aunts told
me the church that I can go to and volunteer in it, since I moved to New York from
New Zealand. Because of this, I was happy and excited. However, when I was in
the Connect Group of Promise International Fellowship—I felt the Holy Spirit
was pushing me to know Jesus better.
Therefore, when I was water-baptized in
this church, I became a firm believer and a follower of Jesus. This is because
the Bible declares,
Do you not know
that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his
death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that,
just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too
might walk in newness of life. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (Romans 6:3-4, 2 Corinthians 5:17)
For this reason, I realized that I was not
firm believer in Christ Jesus, for I was religious and walking with God legalistically.
Thus, I comprehended that I have to come into the Lord to be fully-saved—since the
word of God proclaims, “For the wages of
sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Romans 6:23)
This means that Jesus Christ is our
salvation—since He had come into the world (John 1:14) to crucify Himself as an atonement
of our sins (Colossians 2:13-15); to save us from our
sins by coming into Him through faith. (Hebrews 2:14-15) In other words, Christ has
provided us the way of the life and the truth (John 14:6) that could save our souls. This is
because He says, “I am the resurrection
and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and
whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)
Thus, if we want to be saved for the rest
of our lives, then we ought to repent (Matthew 3:2) and come into Jesus Christ by
accepting His yoke (Matthew 11:28-30) and believing in Him as
our Lord and Savior until the end of the age even though it is hard. (Matthew 7:13-14) “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not
from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
(Ephesians 2:8-9)
Then Jesus said…,
“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways,
take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will
lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what
do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything
worth more than your soul? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the
glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds.” (Matthew 16:24-27)
