“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement
give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so
that with one mind… you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ.” – Romans 15:5-6 NIV
Even though we consider ourselves the
righteousness of God—we need to pray that the Spirit of God would overflow
within us to have godly wisdom in every aspect of our lives.
This is because all of us are sinners
whether we like it or not (Romans 3:23), due to the fact that we are
born from this world and the wordly prince is Satan, the enemy of God.
The god of this
age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of
the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Corinthians 4:4)
However, the victory is already won through
Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:55-57), since He has
destroyed the evil one by crucifying Himself on the cross as an atonement of
our sins. (Hebrews 2:14-15; Colossians 2:13-15) Thus, God has poured
His Spirit into us to enable us to have godly wisdom. This is why the word of
God declares:
Be very careful,
then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every
opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand
what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.
Instead, be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:15-18)
Therefore, if we believe in Jesus Christ as
our Lord and Savior and have godly wisdom within us—the Holy Sprit, which is
the Spirit of God, would advocate us in the walking with God, showing the will
of God is. (John 14:15-17,26-27; Ezekiel 36:26-27) Moreover, this Spirit
gives us eternal life. We know this by Matthew 7:21: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom
of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in
heaven.”
Don’t be
misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.
Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and
death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will
harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. (Galatians 6:7-8)
Although we are sinners and it is hard for
us to follow Jesus Christ until the end of age, we must endure it, especially
if we want to have eternal life in Him (Matthew 16:24-27) For this reason, the word
of God states:
Therefore if you
have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his
love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then
make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in
spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own
interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
In your
relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus. For just
as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have
the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member
belongs to all the others. (Philippians 2:1-5, Romans 12:4-5)
Finally, brothers
and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever
is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or
praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8)
Therefore, I urge
you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a
living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper
worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s
will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1-2)
