“Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the
firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a
man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all
die, so in Christ all will be made alive. For the wages of sin is death, but
the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – 1 Corinthians
15:20-22, Romans 6:23 NIV
To be honest, every one of us are sinners (Romans 3:23) and our destination is death.
(Romans 5:12) This is because first part of Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death…” For this reason, God, our heavenly
Father sent His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, as an image of Himself (Colossians 1:15) into the world (John 1:14) to crucify Himself for our sins (Colossians 2:13-15); to make us alive
again. Hence, we need to be in Jesus Christ through our faith as the second
part of Romans 6:23 declares, “…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
This is also because Jesus proclaims that He is the way of the life and the
truth. (John 14:6)
Jesus said…,
"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live,
even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do
you believe this?" (John 11:25-26)
For God so loved
the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in
him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already
because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (John 3:16-17)
Therefore, in order to have eternal life, the
faith is the primary equipment that we need. This is because Jesus Christ is
the one who could grant us eternal life. (John 17:2-3) In addition, the word of God states:
… make every
effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to
knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to
perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual
affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they
will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind,
forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
Therefore, my
brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election.
For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich
welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:5-11)
Overall, we already have been saved by God if
we believe in Jesus Christ—since the word of God declares, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not
from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can
boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) These verses mean that if
we are saved by God in this way, then we are in the process of the salvation in
Christ Jesus to get eternal life (John 17:3) at the end of the age.
Salvation is found
in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by
which we must be saved.
For, “Everyone who
calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Acts 4:12, Romans 10:13)
