“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,
continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in
the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” – Colossians 2:6-7
NIV
If we have committed our lives to Jesus
Christ and know that we are children of God—we ought to continue to live in
Jesus Christ through faith, even though Christian life is going to be hard. For
this reason, Jesus strictly warns us that we ought to lose our lives for His
sake—especially if we know that we are going to the kingdom of heaven at the end of the age. (Matthew 16:24-27) This is because faith in
Jesus Christ is the primary equipment that all of us need to have; to be the
rightousness of God, for the word of God states: ‘For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness
that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will
live by faith.”’ (Romans 1:17)
Therefore we do
not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being
renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us
an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is
seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is
unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
Therefore, we ought to read the word of God
daily. “For the word of God is alive and
active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing
soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the
heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) 2 Timothy 3:16-17 also explains why we need
to read the word of God daily to be the righteousness of God: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful
for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the
servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Because there is the word of God is
available to us through the Bible; showing how to live our lives righteously
before God—we should be grateful and apply what the word of God says into our
lives. Thus, the Bible declares:
Whatever happens,
conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I
come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand
firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel
without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to
them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. For
it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but
also to suffer for him. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all
in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Philippians 1:27-29, Colossians 3:17)
Furthermore, if we are truly grateful to
God because of the Word and if we truly know that the word of God leads us into
the righteousness—faith turns into love, the final stage of faith in Christ;
for God is love. (1 John 4:8) This is because of the Spirit
of God!
His divine power
has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him
who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his
very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in
the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil
desires.
For this very
reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness,
knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and
to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual
affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they
will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind,
forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
Therefore, my
brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election.
For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich
welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:3-11)
This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of
his Spirit… If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in
them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God
is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. (1 John 4:13,15-16)
