“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is
the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of
those who love him and keep his commandments.” – Deuteronomy 7:9 NIV
We have to know that the Lord God is full
of compassion and love. Overall, He is love because the word of God proclaims, “… Everyone who loves has been born of God
and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
(1 John 4:7-8) The main reason for this is
that He desperately wants to restore all things back to how they were, which is
before sin separated us from the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 1-2) For this reason, God who is in
heaven, came down into the world as Jesus Christ in the human flesh (John 1:14) to crucify Himself on the cross
as an atonement of our sins that we have done. (Colossians 2:13-15) Thus, He could provide
us the way back to the Garden of Eden. Because of these, Jesus declares, “I am the way and the truth and
the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If
you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do
know him and have seen him.” (John 14:6-7)
For God so loved
the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in
him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already
because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (John 3:16-18)
Since the children
have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he
might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and
free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. (Hebrews 2:14-15)
This is how God
showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we
might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved
us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1 John 4:9-10)
Moreover, God, our heavenly Father (Ephesians 4:6) has given us His Spirit,
which is also known as the “Holy Spirit,” to advocate us in the walk with Him. (Ezekiel 36:26-27; John 14:15-17,26-27) Hence, it is our job
to do the will of God until the end of the age to go to the Garden of Eden,
which is also known as the kingdom of heaven. This is because Jesus proclaims, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will
enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my
Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)
Therefore, the word of God urges us not to
love the world and be over-comers of the
world. (1 John 5:1-5) These mean that we should concentrate
on the kingdom of God rather than the world. (Colossians 3:1-4, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Romans 14:17)
Do not love this
world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not
have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for
physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our
achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this
world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave.
But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. (1 John 2:15-17)
Don’t be
misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.
Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and
death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will
harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what
is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t
give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to
everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. (Galatians 6:7-10)
Therefore, I urge
you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a
living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper
worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s
will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1-2)
… “If any of you
wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your
cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But
if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit
if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than
your soul? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his
Father and will judge all people according to their deeds.” (Matthew 16:24-27)
