“Do not conform to the pattern of
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be
able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect
will.” - Romans 12:2 NIV
If we have committed
our lives before God, we must not follow to the pattern of this world. This is
because “we know that we are children of
God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.” (1 John 5:19) Instead, we ought to put the
kingdom of God above all else as well as to live righteously (Matthew 6:33); for our citizenship is
already there if we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with
tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is
destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame.
Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we
eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power
that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our
lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. For we know that if
the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an
eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. (Philippians 3:18-21, 2 Corinthians 5:1)
Hence, we ought to be
like Apostle Paul when he declares:
Whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What
is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of
knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider
them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a
righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through
faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I
want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and
participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so,
somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my
goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of
me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of
it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is
ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me
heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:7-14)
This is also because
the word of God says:
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and
vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and
where thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6:19-20)
For these reasons, we
must overcome the world (1 John 5:1-5), and live like temporary
residents (1 Peter 1:17) by doing the will of God
until the end of the age; for the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 7:21) and the glory of God. (Colossians 3:4)
For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do
not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling,
so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has
fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a
deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. (2 Corinthians 5:4-5)
Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love
the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers
only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and
pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but
are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that
people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. (1 John 2:15-17)
Therefore, we need to
change our mindset into heavenly aspects—since the word of God proclaims:
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the
Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it
does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of
the flesh cannot please God.
You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of
the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not
have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in
you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit
gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him [God] who raised
Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will
also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to
the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you
will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you
will live.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble,
whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is
admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Romans 8:6-13, Philippians 4:8)
In my point of view, I consider that I am
spiritually dead. This is because I have faith; putting the kingdom of God
firstly, but I do not have deeds. We know this because the word of God states: “… faith by itself, if it is not accompanied
by action, is dead.” (James 2:17) I realized this once again
because I have had a nap, due to weariness rather than writing my devotionals
for others and doing my school work. This is because I know this is the will of
God and I am doing this for the kingdom and the glory of God. For this reason,
I need to persevere my tiredness, or get rid off it by going for a walk or
washing my face with cold water.
