“With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God
may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to
fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.”–
2 Thessalonians 1:11 NIV
How can we count ourselves worthy of God’s calling, that by His
power He may fulfill every good purpose of ours and every act prompted by our
faith (2
Thessalonians 1:11)? God’s calling comes from the Spirit of God as the Holy
Spirit is our guidance/advisor/friend to help us in the walk with Him: “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the
Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of
everything I have said to you.” (John
14:26)
But how do we listen the Holy Spirit, or how do we know, if
it REALLY is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit will automatically comes to you,
if we seek the kingdom of God FIRSTLY as well as living righteously (Matthew
6:33), NOT according to our own selfishness, but according to Christ Jesus,
our Lord:
I will give you a new heart, and a
new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from
your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you,
and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.” (Ezekiel
36:26-27)
This is because we are the temple of the Holy Spirit – “Don't you know that you yourselves are
God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst?” (1
Corinthians 3:16)
This means that as a follower of Jesus, we have to act what
Holy Spirit tells us to, in order to fulfill every act prompted by our faith
according to the Spirit of God. This is because faith without action is dead:
What good is it, my brothers and
sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save
them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one
of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing
about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself,
if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James
2:14-17)
But what if the action is going to be very difficult for us to
handle, as same time as we have steadfastness faith in Christ Jesus according
to the Spirit of God? We STILL have to act what the Spirit is calling us to, even
though it is going to be hard, as Jesus warns us:
Whoever wants to be my disciple
[follower] MUST deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever
wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will
find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit
their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of
Man [Jesus] is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he
will reward each person according to what they have done. (Matthew
16:24-27)
We can put our trust in Him, for He is the way of the life
and the truth (John
14:6), and “we know that in all
things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called
according to his purpose.” (Romans
8:28)
