“You are the fountain
of life, the light by which we see.” – Psalm 36:9 NLT
Because of Jesus Christ, we have life which does not end. We
can see this in Romans
6:23: “…the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” However, most of people, especially non-Christians
get confuse with “about” and “in” when Jesus Christ is in the topic. This is
because they think that those two have same meaning, but they do not. If they
are same, then why does the word of God states:
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell
you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”
“How can someone be born when they
are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their
mother’s womb to be born!”
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell
you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the
Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You
should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ (John
3:3-7)?
Thus, in order to have eternal life, we have to be born
again by the Spirit to do the will of God. (John
14:15-17,26; Matthew
7:21) This is why water baptism is necessary, for the word of God states:
We were buried therefore with him
by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead
by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. Therefore, if
anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the
new has come. (Romans
6:4, 2 Corinthians 5:17)
Second of all, we need to know that all of us are in the
darkness. However, if we are followers of Jesus Christ, then we know that we
will have the light of life, which is heaven – ‘When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of
the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the
light of life." ’ (John
8:12) This means that we have to be the light of the world as well, for “we know that we are children of God, and
that the whole world is under the control of the evil one” (1
John 5:19), and since all of us are members of one body which is the Christ’s
(Romans
12:4-5) Because of this, Jesus gave us this great commission to do:
All authority in heaven and on
earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you... (Matthew
28:18-20)
