‘Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt
to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The
commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You
shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may
be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love
does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.’ –
Romans 13:8-10 NIV
Love is the fulfillment of the law, because when we love
someone, we always willing to protect, trust, and persevere, no matter what happens,
that is if we love others as ourselves.
Love is patient, love is kind. It
does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others,
it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does NOT delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always
protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1
Corinthians 13:4-7)
This kind of love is that we should continually be doing to
others, even our enemies; just as Romans
13:10 states that love is the fulfillment of the law, and love is also the
second commandment from God:
Love the Lord your God with all
your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your
strength.’ The second is
this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is NO commandment greater than
these. (Mark
12:30-31)
However, there is one kind of love we should be NOT doing,
which contains sexuality. This is because all of us are members of Christ
Jesus, our Lord and Savior (Romans
12:4-5):
… The body, however, is NOT meant
for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. By
his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. Do you
not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the
members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that
he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is
said, “The two will become one flesh.” But whoever is united with the Lord is
one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits
are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do
you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,
whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a
price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (1
Corinthians 6:13-20)
Therefore, as followers of Christ, let’s choose the love
that does NOT contain sexuality and NOT delight in evil, but rejoice with the
truth; for we are the members of Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior (Romans
12:5)!
