“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as
members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” – Colossians
3:16 NIV
We should let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts. This is
because by the peace, the Lord gives us strength and He blesses us (Psalm
29:11), for we are His children (1
John 3:1) – “Blessed are the
peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew
5:9)
If we do not have the peace of Christ in our lives, then we
are constantly at war with everything else even within ourselves, for “we know that we are children of God, and
that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.” (1
John 5:19) Also, obeying God becomes burden to us. However, He gave us the peace
of God, which is DIFFERENT from the world’s. We know this, because we know
that we have received the Holy Spirit from Him as our guidance/advocate/friend
to help us to walk with God, who is our heavenly Father (Ephesians
4:6):
If you love me, keep my commands. And
I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you
and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because
it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and
will be in you. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will
send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I
have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to
you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be
afraid. (John
14:15-17,26-27)
Therefore, let’s THANK God for pouring down the Holy Spirit
into us, and since Philippians
4:7 states: “The peace of God, which
surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus,” let’s also FULLY overcome the world and devoted to Christ!
Everyone who believes that Jesus is
the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves
whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God,
when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that
we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone
who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome
the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who
believes that Jesus is the Son of God? Therefore, since we have been justified
by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1
John 5:1-5, Romans 5:1)
“I have said these things to you,
that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take
heart; I have overcome the world.” (John
16:33)
