“DON’T be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You
will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own
sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those
who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.” –
Galatians 6:7-8 NLT
First of all, we need to know two things: First is that we
CANNOT mock the justice of God, since He knows everything – ‘“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom
and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond
tracing out! “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his
counselor?” “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” For from
him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever!
Amen.’ (Romans
11:33-36)
Another thing that we should know is that desires/passions
of the flesh are NOT same as desires/passions of the Spirit. This is because
they are contrary to each other – “The
sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit
wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful
nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are
not free to carry out your good intentions” (Galatians
5:17)
Since Galatians
6:7-8 states that we will harvest what we plant: Those who live to satisfy
their sinful nature go to the eternal destruction; those who live according to the
Spirit go to eternal life, then we should live according to the Spirit (John
14:15-17,26,27) even though it is going to be difficult:
Whoever wants to be my disciple MUST
deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to
save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will
find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit
their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of
Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he
will reward each person according to what they have done. (Matthew
16:24-27)
Therefore, we should “repent,
for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew
3:2). Then we should renew our minds from the flesh to the Spirit to do the
will of God (Matthew
7:21), our heavenly Father (Ephesians
4:6), just like what Romans
12:1-2 states:
Therefore, I urge you, brothers
and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living
sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your TRUE and PROPER worship. Do
NOT conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve
what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
