The Trust and the Confidence in Our Lord!

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.” – Jeremiah 17:7 NIV

As followers of Jesus Christ, we should trust and have confidence in the Lord through every circumstance, even it may be a difficult one. In other words, we ought to trust in the Holy Spirit to do everything for us, if we are fully-devoted and committed in God through Christ Jesus, our Lord and Creator. These are the reasons that God has poured His Spirit into us to help us in the walk with the Lord, who is our everlasting heavenly Father. (Ephesians 4:6)

If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:15-17,26-27)

If we have the Holy Spirit within us, then we have the peace of God as well. This is because if we don’t have the peace of God ruling our lives (Colossians 3:16) while we are following the Holy Spirit, then we are constantly at war within ourselves, and following Jesus Christ eventually becomes legalism, which means “self-righteous” act. And we can see this is the wrong way to follow Jesus in 1 Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” And Jesus recommends us to follow Him by coming to Him in everything that we do. We can see this in Matthew 11:28-30, where Jesus says:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Overall, Holy Spirit is interconnected with the peace of God. Thus, let’s always have the peace of God within us to follow Jesus Christ through the Spirit properly, for the word of God states: “The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7) While we are following Jesus, let’s also build our confidence in Him through the Bible, for it is the word of God and “in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17)

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

The topic verse of this devotional (“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.” – Jeremiah 17:7 NIV) is 100% true. This is because I was blessed and humbled few times for trusting and having my confidence in the Lord through the Holy Spirit. To be specific, when I was thinking what I am going to write in my devotional, I often think that I am going to write a short one. After I those thoughts, I began writing it, and the Holy Spirit begins to pour the wisdom and the knowledge of God in my head. Then when I reviewed the devotional that I wrote afterwards for grammar-checking and inserting hyperlinks into the support verses, I realized that I have to trust the Holy Spirit all the more when I write a devotional. This is because I knew that writing devotionals is the work of the Holy Spirit within me.
