“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in
your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” – Psalm 16:11 NIV
First of all, we have to know that Jesus Christ is the way
of the life (John
14:6), which leads us to the eternal kingdom of heaven. This is because our
actual citizenship is in there, as Philippians
3:18-21, 2 Corinthians 5:1 states:
For, as I have often told you
before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the
cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and
their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our
citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord
Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his
control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious
body. For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a
building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
The reason that we belong to heaven is that we are the children
of God. (1
John 3:1) However, we ought to not only believe about Him, but in Him, for
the word of God declares:
Yet to all who did receive him, to
those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children
born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born
of God. (John
1:12-13)
Believing in Christ means that while we believe, we are
doing the will of God in full-devotion that has been called to us by the Holy
Spirit, “for we are God’s handiwork,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us
to do.” (Ephesians
2:10) Hence, we have to abide in the Holy Spirit (John
14:15-17,26-27) in whatever we do, if we committed our whole lives in
Christ Jesus!
Be very careful, then, how you
live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because
the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s
will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be
filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians
5:15-18)
Secondly, God, our heavenly Father longs every one of us to
come together to worship Him daily, since each one of us are temples of Holy
Spirit (1
Corinthians 3:16) and members of Christ (Romans
12:4-5). This is why we go to church (Ephesians
2:20-22) and our great commission from Jesus (Matthew
28:18-20) is to evangelize Him by becoming ambassadors of Christ Jesus. (Matthew
5:14-16, 1 Peter 2:9, 2 Corinthians 5:20) Great example for this would be
Apostle Paul:
Now I rejoice in
what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in
regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. I
have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the
word of God in its fullness—the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and
generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord's people. (Colossians
1:24-26)
Even if we don’t suffer like Paul and we do not go to church
daily—let’s glorify God in everything that we do. (1
Corinthians 10:31) In order to do this, we need to abide the Holy Spirit to
do the will of God, since “God is spirit,
and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” (John
4:24)
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the
justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to
satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful
nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life
from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the
right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore,
whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to
those in the family of faith. (Galatians
6:7-10)
