“I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in
you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender,
responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my
decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. For the word of God is alive and
powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul
and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and
desires.” – Ezekiel 36:26-27, Hebrews 4:12 NLT
If we are fully devoted and surrendered our lives before God
and want to live our lives as new creations which are in Christ Jesus (2
Corinthians 5:17)—then we ought to change our desires and passions from the
flesh into the Spirit. This is because at the end of the age, the flesh will
reap destruction, “for all have sinned
and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans
3:23) – “Just as sin entered the
world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all
people, because all sinned.” (Romans
5:12) However, the Spirit will reap the eternal life in Christ Jesus, which
is a free gift from God who is our heavenly Father. (Ephesians
4:6)
For the wages of sin is death, but
the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans
6:23)
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the
justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to
satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful
nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life
from the Spirit. (Galatians
6:7-8)
Second of all, we ought to read the Bible [word of God]
daily if we are true followers of Jesus Christ, for there are life and
instructions on how to be the righteousness of God.
Whatever happens, conduct
yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and
see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm
in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel without
being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them
that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. For it
has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but
also to suffer for him. (Philippians
1:27-29)
All Scripture is God-breathed and
is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so
that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. For in
the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by
faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges
the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (2
Timothy 3:16-17, Romans 1:17, Hebrews 4:12)
Therefore, let’s become true followers of Christ by
sacrificing ourselves before God even though it is hard, for the glory (Colossians
3:4) and the kingdom of God—since our actual citizenship is in haven, not
on the earth. (Philippians
3:20-21, 2 Corinthians 5:1) For this reason, changing our desires from the
flesh into the Spirit is necessary; to do the will of God. (Matthew
7:21)
Then he [Jesus Christ] called the crowd
to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple
[follower] must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever
wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and
for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world,
yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? If
anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation,
the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with
the holy angels.” (Mark
8:34-38)
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and
sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,
holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform
to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing
and perfect will. (Romans
12:1-2)
His [Jesus Christ’s] divine power
has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him
who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his
very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in
the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil
desires.
For this very reason, make every
effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to
knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to
perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual
affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they
will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind,
forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters,
make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things,
you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal
kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2
Peter 1:3-11)
If we committed our lives before God, then “we know that we are children of God, and
that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.” (1 John 5:19
NIV) Hence, we have a great commission to fulfill as ambassadors of Christ, as
Jesus says:
All authority in heaven and on
earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with
you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:18-20 NIV)
"You are the light of the
world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp
and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light
to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others,
so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in
heaven. For you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people
for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who
called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Therefore, we are
ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on
behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God." (Matthew 5:14-16, 1 Peter 2:9, 2
Corinthians 5:20 ESV)
