“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will
snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater
than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are
one.” – John 10:28-30 NIV
First of all, we need to know that all of us are sinners, “for all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God” (Romans
3:23); even though we believe that we have not sinned. This is hard to
believe for some of us, but it is true.
Therefore, just as sin entered the
world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all
people, because all sinned—
To be sure, sin was in the world
before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where
there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time
of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam,
who is a pattern of the one to come. (Romans
5:12-14)
Because “…the world
around us is under the control of the evil one” (1
John 5:19), God sent His beloved Son, Jesus Christ as an image of Himself (Colossians
1:15) into the world (John
1:14) to crucify Himself on the cross as our atonement of our sins, to free
us from the power of death (Colossians
2:13-15) and to bring us back to God through faith.
Since the children have flesh and
blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the
power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who
all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. (Hebrews
2:14-15)
For God so loved the world [Garden
of Eden] that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in
him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already
because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (John
3:16-18)
Hence, we should come to Jesus Christ with full-devotion, for
He says, “Come to me, all you who
are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take
my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is
light” (Matthew
11:28-30); we know that “the wages of
sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Romans
6:23) Thus, we always can rejoice in the Lord (Philippians
4:4); nobody can snatch us from Him (John
10:28-30), unless we shrink our faith ourselves by negative-thinking. For this
reason, the word of God declares:
Now, dear brothers and sisters, one
final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and
pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and
worthy of praise. (Philippians
4:8)
Dear friends, by building
yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep
yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to
bring you to eternal life. (Jude
1:20-21)
