“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. The
Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him. Therefore do not
worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough
trouble of its own.” - Proverbs 16:3, Psalm 37:23, Matthew 6:34 NIV
If we are fully devoted and followers of Christ Jesus, then
we know that He is going to establish our plans. This is because He is the Creator
(Genesis
1:1,27; Romans
8:28) and is the way of the truth (John
14:6) Thus, this means that He is the planner of everything, for the word
of God declares:
“For
my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the
Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than
your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah
55:8-9)
“For I know the plans I have for
you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to
give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah
29:11)
Therefore, since Proverb
3:5-6 states: “Trust in the Lord with
all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit
to him, and he will make your paths straight”—we have to abide and trust
the Holy Spirit with the peace of God (John
14:15-17,26-27) rather than our own conviction and understanding. This is
because the word of God states:
The mind governed by the flesh is
death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. (Romans
8:6)
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the
justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to
satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful
nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life
from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the
right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore,
whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to
those in the family of faith. (Galatians
6:7-10)
Do not conform to the pattern of
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be
able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect
will. (Romans
12:2)
Since Romans
12:2 starts off with “Do not conform
to the pattern of this world,” we must overcome the world as well if we
consider ourselves as a fully-devoted follower of Jesus Christ; for “we know that we are children of God and
that the world around us is under the control of the evil one,” (1
John 5:19) and our actual citizenship is in the heaven. (Philippians
3:18-21, 2 Corinthians 5:1)
Everyone who believes that Jesus is
the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves
whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God,
when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that
we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone
who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has
overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one
who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1
John 5:1-5)
Be very careful, then, how you live—not
as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days
are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
(Ephesians
5:15-16)
