“For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he
does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his
unfailing love.” – Psalm 33:4-5 NIV
There are four main points in these verses that we need to
look at.
First, the word of God is right and true:
All Scripture is God-breathed and
is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so
that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. For in
the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by
faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by
faith.” For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged
sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it
judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (2
Timothy 3:16-17, Romans 1:17, Hebrews 4:12)
Second, the Lord is faithful in everything that He does, for
“no word from God will ever fail. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but
the word of our God endures forever.” (Luke
1:37, Isaiah 40:8) This is because “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and
today and forever.” (Hebrews
13:8)
For you have been born again, not
of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word
of God. For, "All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the
flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of
the Lord endures forever." And this is the word that was preached to you.
(1
Peter 1:23-25)
God is not a man, so he does not
lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and
failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? (Numbers
23:19)
Third, God, our heavenly Father (Ephesians
4:6) loves righteousness and justice. This is because those are exactly why
His beloved Son was crucified; to make us become the righteousness of God by
living as new creations in Him:
For we died and were buried with
Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious
power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. This means that anyone who
belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has
begun! For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin,
so that we could be made right with God through Christ. (Romans
6:4, 2 Corinthians 5:17,21)
“He [Jesus Christ] himself bore our
sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and
live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” For “you were
like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and
Overseer of your souls. (1
Peter 2:24-25)
Surely he took up our pain and bore
our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and
afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our
iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds
we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to
our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah
53:4-6)
Last, the earth is full of God’s unfailing love.
This is how God showed his love
among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live
through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent
his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1
John 4:9-10)
You see, at just the right time,
when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will
anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might
possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While
we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans
5:6-8)
At one time we too were foolish,
disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We
lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the
kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of
righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the
washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us
generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by
his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. (Titus
3:3-7)
See what great love the Father has
lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we
are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. (1
John 3:1)
Therefore, since our heavenly Father made us in His image (Genesis
1:27) and “we know that we are
children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one”
(1
John 5:19)—let’s repent for walking through the wide road instead of narrow
one (Matthew
7:13-14), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (Matthew
3:2) Then let’s abide in the love of God in full-devotion by abiding into
His Word (1
John 1:10-2:1) and His Spirit (John
14:26-27), for there is life!
Whatever happens, conduct
yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and
see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm
in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel without
being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them
that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. For it
has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but
also to suffer for him. (Philippians
1:27-29)
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the
justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to
satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful
nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life
from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the
right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore,
whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to
those in the family of faith. (Galatians
6:7-10)
However, let’s pray in full-devotion before the Lord as well,
for there is power!
Do not be anxious about anything,
but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will
guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians
4:6-7)
If we claim to be without sin, we
deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is
not in us. My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But
if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the
Righteous One. (1
John 1:8-2:1)
This is the confidence we have in
approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And
if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked
of him. (1
John 5:14-15)
Because the earth is full of God’s unfailing love, I believe
we (believers in Christ) should be ambassadors of Christ, for Jesus is the way
of the life and the truth (John 14:6) and “we
know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control
of the evil one.” (1 John 5:19 NIV) For this reason, Jesus states:
All authority in heaven and on
earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am
with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:18-20)
