“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will
reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us
do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of
believers.” “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good
works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Galatians 6:9-10,
Ephesians 2:10 NIV
If we are fully-devoted to Christ Jesus and committed our
lives before Him, then we are not supposed to become weary in doing good “for we are God’s handiwork, created in
Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
(Ephesians
2:10) This is because we are going to reap eternal life at the end of the
age, if we know that we are directed by the Holy Spirit.
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the
justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to
satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful
nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life
from the Spirit. (Galatians
6:7-8)
Hence, time-managing is important to us; we have to make
sure that we do not get weary to do works that God is calling each of us to do.
This is because if we get tired for them, then we might easily want to give
them up. The word of God warns us that we are going to be spiritually dead,
especially in James
2:26: “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is
dead.”
What good is it, my brothers and
sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save
them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one
of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing
about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself,
if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James
2:14-17)
Therefore, let’s sacrifice our whole lives before God to do
good works that He is calling us to do, even if we are tired. This is because
we are made to do good works, to let the light of Jesus shine through us. “For
those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son,
that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” (Romans
8:29)
You are the light of the world. A
town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put
it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to
everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew
5:14-16)
To be honest, these verses have penetrated into my heart. I
often become weary when I write devotionals, or am already tired to even write
one in every morning. This is because I usually sleep after midnight. Since I
know writing devotionals are the work of the Holy Spirit within me, I should
manage my time straight to write devotionals in the mornings, and do everything
that glorifies God during days. This is because I know that I am the child of
God, and the word of God declares: “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you
do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV)
I eagerly expect and hope that I
will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as
always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to
me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:20-21 NIV)
