“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who
gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” –
James 1:5 NIV
To be honest, all of us need the Spirit of
God (John 14:15-27) in our lives to do
everything, especially to discern what the will of God is (Romans 12:2) “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for
all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”
(1 Timothy 4:8) Thie main reason for this is
that we are supposed to live our lives as children of God (John 1:12-13), due to the fact that we have
been created to be the images of God (Genesis 1:27).
See what great
love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did
not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has
not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like
him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify
themselves, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:1-3)
Therefore, we ought to crucify our own desires
and abide in the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:24-25). This is because the
word of God states that we are not able to serve both God and money (Matthew 6:24). The main reason for this is
that our worldly desires contradict the desires of the Spirit, which means that
we cannot choose either of them. (Galatians 5:17). Furthermore, the word of God declares:
Don’t be
misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you
plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest
decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the
Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of
doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing
if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do
good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith. (Galatians 6:7-10)
Do not love this
world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not
have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for
physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our
achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this
world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave.
But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. And it is impossible to
please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God
exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. (1 John 2:15-17, Hebrews 11:6)
Hence, we should continually plead with
God, our heavenly Father (Ephesians 4:6) to receive the Spirit and
wisdom of God from Him. This is because the Holy Spirit is absolutely free gift
once we repent for everything that we did wrong against our heavenly Father (Acts 2:38-39). In addition, the Jesus
Christ proclaims, “If you then, though
you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will
your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (Luke 11:13)
His divine power [the
Spirit of God] has given us everything we need for a godly life through our
knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he
has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may
participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world
caused by evil desires.
For this very
reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness,
knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance;
and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to
mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing
measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your
knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is
nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past
sins.
Therefore, my
brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election.
For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich
welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:3-11)
