“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but
fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and
blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord. For now we see only a reflection as
in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall
know fully, even as I am fully known.” – Proverbs 1:7,16:20, 1 Corinthians
13:12 NIV
First of all, we ought to know that Lord,
Almighty God is “omnipotent” and “omniscient” God, the powerful and all-knowing
God. This is because the word of God states, “Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the
everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No
one can measure the depths of his understanding. How great is our Lord! His
power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!” (Isaiah 40:28, Psalm 147:5) In addition to
this, God proclaims, "I am the Alpha
and the Omega--the beginning and the end… I am the one who is, who always was,
and who is still to come--the Almighty One." (Revelation 1:8) Overall, these mean that He
knows the past, present and future.
Oh, the depth of the
riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable
his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
“Who has known the
mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?”
“Who has ever
given to God, that God should repay them?”
For from him and
through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. (Romans 11:33-36)
Actually, all of God’s working and doing
within us is to pull our attention onto Him, so His presence always can be with
us that we always can depend on God throughout our lives and we are able to receive
the eternal life through the faith of Jesus Christ (John 6:29;17:3). The main reason for this is all of us
have been created to be images of God (Genesis 1:27), and we are supposed to be
children of God (Mark 10:15) as Jesus declares, “Let the little children come to me, and do
not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14) Furthermore, the Psalmist
states,
You have searched
me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my
thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are
familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it
completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such
knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go
from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the
heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I
rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even
there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say,
“Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even
the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for
darkness is as light to you.
For you created my
inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I
am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full
well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when
I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed
body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them
came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of
them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I
awake, I am still with you. (Psalm 139:1-18)
Therefore, like this Psalmist, we have to
abide in the Spirit of God (John 14:15-27). “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” (Romans 8:14)
And we know that
in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been
called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to
be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many
brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he
called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. Being
confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to
completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:28-30, Philippians 1:6)
However, we also ought to abide in God’s
word as well, since that is where fear and knowledge of God come from (Proverbs 1:7)
“For the word of God is alive and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and
spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
(Hebrews 4:12) The word of God is like our
instruction manual on how to live righteously before God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), as faith and deeds have
to work together (James 2:14-26). Furthermore, the word of
God states, “Blessed is the one who does
not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit
in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who
meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by
streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not
wither—whatever they do prospers.” (Psalm 1:1-3)
For I am not
ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to
everyone who believes… For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a
righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The
righteous will live by faith.” (Romans 1:16-17)
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of
Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence,
I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for
the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose
you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be
saved—and that by God. For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not
only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him. (Philippians 1:27-29)
From my experience, writing
devotionals is double-edged Great Commission. This is because while I am
writing devotionals to influence others spiritually, I gain knowledge of God as
well. Moreover, I fear the Lord when I write them, for it is the power of the
Spirit working in me to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ by writing (Hebrews 4:12). This is because without the
power of the Holy Spirit, I absolutely have no idea how to write devotionals.
In addition, I often receive the feeling that I should have put more in my
devotionals when I am putting on social networks and e-maling them to the
people who are in my devotional list. Overall, it amazes me that writing
devotional increases the knowledge of God and that I am able to put all of my
deep thought down on specific verses, especially when I write more than one
page. Hence, I have decided that I am going to be Christian Writer.
