“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no
other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. For the
wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord.” – Acts 4:12, Romans 6:23 NIV
We ought to know that true salvation comes
only from Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12), for He proclaims that He is the
way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). This is because He was
crucified on the cross as atonement of our sins (Colossians 2:13-15), and has given us
eternal life instead of death (Romans 6:23). The main reason for this is
that God has still loved us so much when we are sinners (Romans 3:23;5:12), due to the fact that we were still
part of God’s creation (Genesis 1:27). Thus, for this reason, the
word of God declares:
For God so loved
the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:16-17)
This is how God
showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we
might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved
us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1 John 4:9-10)
Therefore, since Jesus Christ is the true
salvation to the eternal kingdom of heaven (Philippians 3:20-21, 2 Corinthians 5:1-5)—we
ought to crucify our worldly desires and passions, and we also ought to abide
in the Spirit of God (Galatians 5:24-25). This is because the
Spirit of God (John 14:15-27) leads to eternal life (Romans 8:1-13). The reason why we have to
crucify our worldly desires, in order to fully abide in the Holy Spirit is that
both of their desires seems to contradict each other (Galatians 5:17). This is the reason why the
word of God states, “No one can serve two
masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
(Matthew 6:24) In fact, the word of God
strongly points out that we have to be overcomers of the world in 1 John 5:1-5 and 1 John 2:15-17, for the word of God says, “You adulterous people, don’t you know that
friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who
chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think
Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has
caused to dwell in us?” (James 4:4-5)
For the grace of
God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No”
to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and
godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the
appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave
himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a
people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. (Titus 2:11-14)
Since, then, you
have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is,
seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly
things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When
Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
(Colossians 3:1-4)
