The Light of God!

“This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. ” –  1 John 1:5-7 NLT

First of all, we need to know that Jesus Christ, as an image of God, the Creator (Colossians 1:15-17) came down from heaven into the world (John 1:14) to give us light (John 1:9). This is because all of us have been in spiritual darkness, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) To be more specific, we have been sinning that results death at the end of the age because of the world (Romans 5:12) The another reason why Jesus Christ came down into the world, was that to give us life through Him (John 1:4) as He has been the way of the life and the truth (John 14:6) In other words, Jesus Christ came into the world to conquer spiritual evil forces and death by crucifying Himself on the cross (Colossians 2:13-15), in order to give us freedom (Hebrews 2:14-15) through walking in the light and through Him.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

Because Jesus Christ wants us to follow Him by becoming the children of light—not only He has given us His Word (Psalm 119:105), but He has also poured His Spirit into us as well (Ezekiel 36:26-27). Otherwise, becoming the children of light would be too hard. Furthermore, there are different characteristic attributes within the Spirit, which are “… love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…” (Galatians 5:22-23). In addition, they are combined together; thus it is known as the fruit of the Spirit. With the fruit of the Spirit, we can always rejoice in the Lord (Philippians 4:4) and become the children of light (Ephesians 5:8-9). This is because at the end of Galatians 5:23, it says, “… against such things there is no law.” This is why Jesus Christ declares, “… whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” (John 14:12,16:7)

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 5:20)

Moreover, it is very true that 1 John 1:7 states, “… if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. ” This is because John 4:23-24 declares, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” In other words, we are fellowshipping and going closer to the Lord, if we are walking in the light and following the Holy Spirit, as the Spirit of God (John 14:15-27) is able to make us to become the righteousness of God (Romans 8:1-4).
