“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and
timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
First of all, we ought to know what the
Spirit of God is while we are living Christian life. Otherwise, it is barely
possible to walk with God, as “for all
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
The Spirit of God; also known as the ‘Holy
Spirit’ is the person; the third member of the trinity—God, the Son, and the
Holy Spirit. However, the Holy Spirit can be the spirit as well, for the Holy
Spirit guides us to walk in the right path that our heavenly Father (Ephesians 4:6) wants us to walk in. In
other words, we are able to know what the will of God is through the Holy
Spirit (John 14:15-17,26-27; Ezekiel 36:26-27), if we have faith in
Christ Jesus and right mindset that forms godliness (2 Peter 1:3-4; 1 Timothy 4:8) This is why the word of God
declares,
Do not conform to
the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing
and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)
Therefore, instead of looking and abiding
into the world, we have to look at Jesus Christ and the kingdom of God (1 John 2:15-17; Hebrews 12:1-2; Matthew 6:33). If we are doing these, then
the Spirit of God is going to flow within us to do the will of God (1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20). This is because of
the hope of God (Romans 5:5; Romans 15:13). Furthermore, we are able to
feel that Holy Spirit gives us the power to be able to do the will of God (Isaiah 40:31), to love others (Romans 13:8-10), and to discipline
ourselves to match the will of God (Philippians 4:12-13).
For this very
reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness,
knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and
to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual
affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they
will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:5-8)
From my point of view, I know that the
Spirit of God gives me the power, to love others, and to discipline myself. Firstly,
the Holy Spirit gives me the power to write devotionals. This is because I felt
I was only able to write a short devotionals, but the grace of God and the
power of the Holy Spirit often hovers me to write a quite long ones for each
time. Thus, for this reason, I should thank God, my heavenly Father every time
for giving me theological mindset. This is why I want to be a Christian Writer
to influence others spiritually. In addition, influencing others spiritually
through writing is the way that I can confess who Jesus Christ really is (1 John 4:15). Thus, this the way that I can
do Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).
Second of all, the Holy Spirit gives me the
power to love one another. This is because I often feel that I should love one
another, especially who are the followers of Jesus Christ. When I think of
this, Romans 12:4-5 empowers me to consider the
followers of Jesus Christ as my family members (1 Corinthians 12:12-13), for these verses
declare,
For just as each
of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the
same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member
belongs to all the others. (Romans 12:4-5)
The human body has
many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body
of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some
are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all
share the same Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)
Lastly, I feel that the Holy Spirit is
disciplining me each time I failed to match with the will of God by putting a
sense of the guilt. This happened to me for several times. Therefore, I have
got to manage my time correctly between when I have got to persevere (Romans 5:1-4) and when I have to rest in
Christ Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30) Thus, for this reason, I
have to continue to build up my faith in Christ Jesus, since the word of God
states,
For it is by grace
you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the
gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s
handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in
advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
