‘Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and
do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”’ –
Matthew 19:14 NIV
All of us are ought to be like the little children
that Jesus Christ has been talking about, especially for those of us who want
to follow Christ obediently. This is because God is our heavenly Father (Ephesians 4:6) and Jesus is the perfect
image of God, who has been creating everything (Colossians 1:15-17). This means that we
have to depend everything on God, for Christ is the way of the truth and the
life (John 14:6). Therefore, the word of God
declares,
Do not be anxious
about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which
transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Even though we have our own worries and
anxieties, like Philippians 4:6 says—we must always be calm
(Psalm 46:10) and wait for the Lord (Psalm 27:14) to work through our lives.
This is because God’s timing is always right, for the word of God proclaims, “for still the vision awaits its appointed
time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it
will surely come; it will not delay.” (Habakkuk 2:3) This is means that He knows
everything, since the word of God proclaims, “nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is
uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
(Hebrews 4:13)
Oh, the depth of the
riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable
his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
“Who has known the
mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?”
“Who has ever
given to God, that God should repay them?”
For from him and
through him and for him are all things.
To him be the
glory forever! Amen. (Romans 11:33-36)
“I am the Alpha
and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who
is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.” (Revelation 1:8)
Second of all, we must play our part as
well—to do the will of God as the Holy Spirit tells us. This is because faith
without deeds is useless (James 2:14-26). Therefore, we need to
overcome the world (1 John 5:1-5) and abide in the Holy Spirit
(Ezekiel 36:26-27), whom God has given us to
do the will of God (John 14:15-27). Otherwise, all of us would
fall away from the Lord, continue to sin even when we do not want to, and worst
of all, all of us would be condemned at
the end of the age rather than going into the kingdom of heaven. This is
because Jesus Christ states, “But very
truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away,
the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he
comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness
and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; about
righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no
longer; and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands
condemned.
I
have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the
Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak
on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet
to come.” (John 16:7-13)
For physical
training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding
promise for both the present life and the life to come. This is a trustworthy
saying that deserves full acceptance. (1 Timothy 4:8-9)
Those who belong
to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to
his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us
follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. (Galatians 5:24-25)
Furthermore, it is probably best to keep
the hope of God (1 Peter 1:3-9) tightly if we want to follow
Jesus Christ obediently, even though it is hard (Matthew 16:24-27). This is because it enables
us to have desires to pursue God more by reading His Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17), to pray more by
spending alone-time with Him (Philippians 4:6-7), and becoming holy in Him
(1 Peter 1:13-16) This means that the hope
of God establishes us and more dependent on Him.
May the God of
hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may
overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)
