Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you
will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” –
John 14:6-7 NIV
All of us need to know that God came down
from heaven into the earth as Jesus Christ (John 1:14) to crucify Himself on the cross
as an atonement of our sins and to destroy the evil one who has been controlling
us (Colossians 2:13-15; Hebrews 2:14-15). In other words, because
of our sinfulness (Romans 3:23) that leads us to death, God
sent His Son to crucify Himself on the cross, in order to provide us the way of
the truthful life; to restore us back into His kingdom. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ
Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
The greatest aspect about Christianity is
that we just have to believe that Jesus Christ is God, who was crucified on the
cross for our sins to provide us the new way of truthful living (John 14:6). This is because God is our
heavenly Father (Ephesians 4:6) , who accepts anyone that
comes to Him through the faith of Jesus Christ—since the word of God proclaims,
“without faith it is impossible to please
God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he
rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6) “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not
from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
(Ephesians 2:8-9) However, through faith, we
ought to do the works of God as well that has been handed down to us. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in
Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10) This is because Jesus
Christ declares, “Not everyone who says
to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who
does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21) Thus, we must beware to not get
confused with the faith and the works of God. For this reason, God has poured
His Spirit, known as the “Holy Spirit” into us to guide us in walking with
the Lord (John 14:15-17; Ezekiel 36:26-27).
At one time we too
were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and
pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But
when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because
of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through
the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us
generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by
his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a
trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who
have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good.
These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. (Titus 3:3-8)
His divine power [Holy Spirit] has given us everything we need for a
godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and
goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises,
so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped
the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness;
and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to
self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness,
mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these
qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and
unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not
have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed
from their past sins.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your
calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and
you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:3-11)
Furthermore, He created
His word for us to live righteously before Him and for the kingdom of God, not
the world—since “…the whole world is
under the control of the evil one.” (1 John 5:19) ‘For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness
that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will
live by faith.” For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any
double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and
marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.’ (Romans 1:17, Hebrews 4:12)
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of
Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence,
I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for
the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose
you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be
saved—and that by God. For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not
only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him. (Philippians 1:27-29)
