Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes
to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father
as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” – John 14:6-7 NIV
There are the four main points in John
14:6-7, which connects altogether. First one is that God, our heavenly
Father (Ephesians
4:6) provided the way of the life. God did this by sending Jesus Christ as
an image of Himself (Colossians
1:15) into the world (John
1:14) to crucify Himself on the cross as our atonement of our sins. (Colossians
2:13-15) “For the wages of sin is
death…” (Romans
6:23) Thus, He can renew us by
His Spirit to become the righteousness of God, who could have eternal life by
doing the will of God until the end of age. (Matthew
7:21) For “… the gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans
6:23) We know that Jesus Christ is the way of the truth, just by two verses
of John 3, which are 16
and 17:
For God so loved the world [Garden
of Eden – Genesis
1-2] that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Therefore, the world needs to know that Jesus is “the way and the truth and the life.”
(John 14:6) This is why devout Christians are becoming an ambassador of Christ
as well, due to 1
John 5:19, Romans 6:23. They automatically could become the children of God
(1
John 3:1-2), if they accept and receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and
Lord. This is because the word of God declares:
Yet to all who did receive him
[Jesus Christ], to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become
children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or
a husband’s will, but born of God. (John
1:12-13)
Thus, devout Christians have right to become an ambassador
of Christ as well. There are two main reasons for this. First, Jesus says:
Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead
and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out
and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by
baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them
in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this,
day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.” (Matthew
28:18-20)
Second, Jesus also proclaims that devout Christians are the
light of the world to shine the light of Jesus Christ, for He is the true light.
(John
1:9-10) We can see this in Matthew
5:14-16, which states:
You are the light of the world. A
city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it
under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone
in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they
may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. For you
are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own
possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of
darkness into his marvelous light. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ,
God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be
reconciled to God. (Matthew
5:14-16, 1 Peter 2:9, 2 Corinthians 5:20)
