“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide
me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you
all day long.” – Psalm 25:4-5 NIV
First of all, we have to know that all of
us became sinners because of the world (Romans 5:12-14). Because of this, God sent
His beloved Son, Jesus Christ from heaven into the world as an image of Himself
(John 1:14) to be crucified on the cross as
an atonement of our sins (Colossians 2:13-15). This is because God,
the Creator (Genesis 1:1) and our heavenly Father (Ephesians 4:6) have been wanted to save us
from our sins that result in eternal death and has given us eternal life
through Christ (Romans 6:23). However, the main reason for
this is that all of us have been created by God (Genesis 1:27) and have still been part of
His Creation, even though we have sinned against Him (Romans 3:23) due to His Steadfast love (John 3:16-17; 1 John 4:9-10). This is why Jesus has
proclaimed, “I am the way and the truth
and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know
me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen
him.” (John 14:6-7) Thus, for this reason, we
ought to believe in Him until the end of the age (John 11:25-26), as He prayed before His
Father like this—“Now this is eternal
life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have
sent.” (John 17:3)
For it is by grace
you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the
gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork,
created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us
to do. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
Moreover, when Jesus was resurrected back
from death to life, God has poured His Spirit into us to help and teach us how
to live righteously (John 14:15-27; Romans 8:1-13). This is why before Jesus Christ’s
crucifixion, He stated that it has been for our own good that He was going
away, for God could not pour His Spirit into us until Jesus was crucified and
went back into heaven (John 16:7-15). Therefore, we ought to crucify
ourselves with the repentance and abide in the Spirit of God (Acts 2:38-39) through faith in Christ Jesus
(Acts 3:19-20; Galatians 5:24-25) with the hope of God
that is in stored for us (1 Peter 1:3-9). Otherwise, we are going to
be ‘evildoers’ that is stated in Matthew 7:22-23. This is because if we
continue to do ministry things out of the religious-mindset, then we are never
going to enter into the kingdom of heaven. This means that in order to get into
heaven at the end of the age, we have to love our Lord and others first (Mark 12:30-31) and then do the will of God
until the end of the age (Matthew 7:21). Hence, the word of God says,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and
lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will
make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and
shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”
(Proverbs 3:5-8)
At one time we too
were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and
pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But
when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because
of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through
the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us
generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by
his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a
trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who
have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good.
These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. (Titus 3:3-8)
