The Context of Colossians 3:1-4!

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.” – Colossians 3:1-4 NIV

Colossians 3:1-4 is the first paragraph under the heading of ‘Living as Those Made Alive in Christ.’ Apostle Paul was probably instructing on how to live as God’s raised people in the name of Jesus Christ to those who got baptised in His name. Baptism is usually known as the public confession of faith in Him to fellow Christians. However, it is deeper than that, I believe. It is not only external proclamation of faith in Jesus Christ, but it is also internal one as well. Baptism candidates are able to confess to God that they would be willing to be obedient followers of Christ as well as to others. My favourite book and chapter of the Bible about baptism is Romans 6, so have a read to find out what it means to live as “baptised-people” in the name of Jesus. Overall, Apostle Paul is talking about godly attributes in Colossians 3:1-4, so he was probably prompting Colossians to concentrate on God and what they are living for, instead of visible things.

Tomorrow, I anticipate on writing further on the baptism.
