“How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter
than honey.” – Psalm 119:103
Most of us believe that God is all about
the grace and mercy, so we think that it is okay to just feel His presence all
the time. We might even think God is going to forgive us in every circumstance
and situation, so we live our lives according to our desires, passions,
pleasures, and will. This is because of the steadfast love of God and that God
has already paid our death penalty through Jesus Christ. Furthermore, we
believe that all of us are going to the kingdom of heaven at the end of the age
or at the end of our physical lives, according to our deeds. Thus, for this
reason, we try our best to please God in our own strength until the end of our
physical lives, since Jesus is the One who is going to transform our mortal
bodies into glorious bodies and bring us into the kingdom of heaven.
God is all about the grace (1
Corinthians 15:10) and the mercy (Lamentations
3:22-23), and He is forgiving God (1
John 1:8-2:2), but we ought to abide in Jesus Christ to know who God really
is. This is because He is the perfect image of God (Colossians
1:15) and He is the main source of the eternal life (John
17:3). Getting to know Him is what pleases Him (Hebrews
11:6) and the best method to abide in Him is meditating in the word of God through
the Spirit of God (Psalm
1:1-3). “For the word of God is alive
and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing
soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the
heart.” (Hebrews
4:12) In fact, the righteousness of God is actually revealed in the word of
God (Romans
1:16-17).
All Scripture is
inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize
what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to
do what is right. God uses it to prepare
and equip his people to do every good work. (2
Timothy 3:16-17)
Therefore, the word of God is like our instruction
manual of becoming the righteousness of God (Philippians
1:27-29). This is probably why Psalm
119:103 states, “How sweet your words
taste to me; they are sweeter than honey.” Hence, we have to open our
spiritual mouth, eat the word of God with our minds and digest and nourish it in
our souls and hearts, which means we have to be open the door of our hearts to
Jesus Christ (Revelation
3:20) and let the Spirit of God to change us (Ephesians
3:20-21), if we truly want to become the righteousness of God (Romans
8:1-17). This is because Jesus Christ declares, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I
have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” (Matthew
5:17). The main reason why Jesus Christ came into this world is to give us
the way of the truthful life (John
14:6-7).
For through the
law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified
with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I
now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and
gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness
could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing! (Galatians
2:19-21)
As for me, I think the word of God is
vitally important for our lives, that I always do the audio-bible on Youversion
application (Romans
10:17). Although I have the knowledge of God because of the Spirit of God,
I actually have not putting them into practice. Sometimes, I do but not all of
the time. Therefore, I am like living in a house on the sand, which means that
I will be destroyed and perished (Luke
6:46-49). Thus, for this reason, I have to really deny myself (Matthew
16:24-27) crucify my flesh and abide in the Spirit of God (Galatians
5:24-25).
Lord,
we know that we sometimes go astray from You,
But You
never give up on us because of Your steadfast love.
So we
commit our lives into reading and meditating on Your Word.
Therefore,
help us to nourish and cherish Your Word,
Through
the Holy Spirit,
As
we open Your Word everyday.
In Jesus’
name, Amen.
